Brai has discovered her hips

I have been slacking on posts lately.  My camera needs to be downloaded to my computer, my life needs to have a minute or two to do so, my children need to nap longer or nap period, I need to get up at 5:30 to do this plus weed the garden, put away laundry, mop my floor, make some sense of my craft room, and dejunk all the junk baskets I have around my house.  You know just the normal excuses.  Plus when I look at blogger and it tells me that 2 people on average view this blog it doesn't give me much motivation to actually post something-except that I know my mom loves it.  I have had this video to share for a while.  Brailie is becoming quite the dancer.  She always is doing some crazy move and her little hip shake is priceless.  She gets it from me-I had a mean hip hip shake back in my day.

Polka Dancing

While at home the girls were in the basement exploring with Grammy (and let me tell you there is plenty to explore down there) and they came across our childhood record player.  My mom brought it up and put new batteries in it and the thing played like a dream-I mean it had amazing quality of sound (that goes to tell you that toys of the past were built to last).  So we tested out many different old records.  Allie's favorite was "Maneater" but one night I convinced her to play a polka record for Grandpa Sam because that is his favorite music.  He didn't hardly move the whole time but I did see his foot tap slightly to the beat.  I wished with all my heart he would have just jumped off that couch and did his classic bob and bounce just like he used to every sat night while washing dishes and listening to the old time dance party.  I listened to a talk recently about the healing power of music and I wonder if a even 15 minutes a day of polka music wouldn't do him some good.  Probably wouldn't want it on his own-wish we would have found the record player sooner while home.

The Wedding

A couple of weekends ago we went to the "cousins" wedding reception weekend with two of Greg's cousins having receptions.  We also went to the sealing of one (his cousin Jesi) who got married in Manti.  That was probably the best sealing I have ever been to with the sealer explaining the temple covenants so well.  It was beautiful.  After a long day we got to the receptions at the time my girls usually go to bed.  Let's just say we left kicking and screaming and had "a really nice time."

Popcorn Bopping and Video Overload

I bought this CD recently at Deseret Book for the girls.  It is dance mix versions of popular church kids songs.  I am telling you what some may think it is blasphemy but I LOVE IT!!!!  I probably love it so much because if we had had this when i was a kid my brothers and Tovah and I would have been putting together some major performances and hitting the road to become rich and famous.  I think I could possibly be found driving with this CD playing in my car...without my kids in toe.  Totally reminds me of my childhood.  Oh and did I mention that the girls love it.  Allie is really into dancing right now (just not as much when I try and video) but this is really bringing out some new dance moves in this little girl.  This CD and the Strawberry Shortcake Sing and Dance Along CD.  I am adding a selection of dance related videos (mostly for my mom) but I am sure I know a few others who will get a kick out of them.

Brailies Dance

Allie is not the only one with rhythm, Brailie is really getting into dancing too. 

Prom 2011

We decided to go to the prom this year.  The girls really love dancing and they love the High School girls and so we thought it would be really fun.  Allie wanted to go but all week was refusing to wear a dress.  Some how on Friday night she was thrilled to get dressed and ready to go (A MIRACLE).

 The girls loved dancing.  They started from the minute we got there and didn't stop until we left a couple of hours later.  One of the teachers, Mrs. Church was there also with her daughter Kenlee.  Allie and Brailie loved playing with her.

The girls also loved dancing with the Basketball girls. 

 Allies idea of dancing consisted of a lot of running laps.

 And swinging (this is her favorite thing to do).

 This handsome man was the best date 3 girls could have.  He danced and danced some more.  He gets husband of the year just for that!!!

 This is how both girls looked just before leaving.  Greg and I were sure they would sleep in in the morning.  YA RIGHT!!!!!!!

We had a blast.  I think we might make this a tradition.  What do you think babe?

It's a Miracle

After the basketball tournament was over we all went to Greg's parents new house in Monroe (have I mentioned how much we love the new house-so much room and I covet the kitchen).  Let me just explain what it is usually like when the whole Parsons clan gets together:

-kids running around and screaming and laughing and crying
-adults screaming over the children to hear each other
-and sports-lots and lots of watching sports (especially golf-SNORE).
-the men usually watch sports, the women sometimes do crafts and mostly watch the children
-oh and surfing the internet-someone is always surfing the web

It pretty much has been that way since I married into the family.  I am getting used to tuning out some kind of sports program.  But (and this is a BIG BUT) this time a miracle occurred.  It came in the form of Just Dance 2 for Kids to play on the Wii (don't worry those of you who don't know what that means).  It is a game that you play that is on the TV and shows kids dancing to different songs and you have to try and copy their moves (that is the readers digest version).  Well Grandma bought it for Kylie (9) to try to see if she wanted it for her birthday.  That got all the kids up dancing.  But the real miracle is that prior to this the men were watching the All-Star Basketball game and they turned it off so the kids could dance.  After the kids danced a couple of songs all the moms took a turn, but only because the men promised they would if we did.  And yep-I have videos to prove it.  (please excuse my laughing in the background but this was hilarious).

And they even had fun.  Greg danced for like 5 different songs.  Ryan danced more on his own too.  I have never seen anything like this in my 4 years of marriage.  We all had a blast.  It was the best time we have had together yet-in my opinion.

No-Grandpa Stan is not an invalid-we convinced him to try too-only he just danced in his chair (and I think he had fun too).

All I have to say is this has got to become a Parsons tradition because it was so fun.  Lets make more traditions-what do you say Parsons?

Polka Dancing

A little while ago while I was making some things on Smilebox I was browsing through their music selection and came across these songs.  I nearly burst into tears because these were the songs of my childhood and I can see my dad sitting with his accordion, shoulders and head swaying, foot tapping as he played these so we could dance.  If only I could go back in time I would ask Heavenly Father to let me sit in on a dance or two where he and my aunt used to play in their younger years.  I would be thrilled beyond belief just to hear him play in his prime.  I had to see what Allie would do when she heard the same sweet songs.  These are for you Dad and Auntie Helen and of course my mom who has always encouraged us to dance.
